Merrick Community nursery School is celebrating 50 years of providing
quality preschool education for children in Merrick, Bellmore, North
Merrick, North Bellmore, Wantagh, Freeport and surrounding communities.
Founded in
Merrick in 1955, Merrick Community Nursery School is non-profit,
non-sectarian and interracial. Chartered and registered by the
University of the State of New York. We are also licensed by the Office
of Children and Family Services.
Many of the
teachers at Merrick Community have advanced degrees. They have
specialized in early childhood education because they love
the process of watching young children learn. They bring to
class many years of experience, their own enthusiasm for science,
literature and math and the ability to present age appropriate projects
in original and exciting ways. Our teachers continue to learn by
regularly attending workshops and conferences.

Parents,
extended family members, or caregivers participate in their
child’s classroom on a rotation schedule by bringing a snack
to share and becoming a “teacher’s
helper”. This provides an important early bond for the home
school network. Parents are encouraged to share their special talents
with the class anytime – from storytelling, to music, to
cooking a special snack together.
New option:
Non-Participation fee schedule for working parents or parents unable to
help monthly in the classroom. Call for more information.

The art
processes at Merrick Community release the imaginations of our
children. They are designed to exercise fine motor skills while
producing competency, completion and self-esteem. Traditional and
nontraditional materials are used to let children see with all their
senses the wide range of possibilities available to them, and to feel
that the potential for success is in their hands. Traditional and

Merrick
Community Nursery School offers a wonderful opportunity to develop your
child’s sense of community. Children often work together in
groups or at one of the play centers. The principles of self-control,
sharing, compromise and empathy are seen at work here every day.

Children play
outside every day, weather permitting. Our large, tree shaded and
fenced-in playground has a tree house, sandbox and bike path and sets
the scene for dramatic play on a grand scale. For inclement weather, a
large indoor room is also equipped with a variety of gross motor
equipment.
